Phonetics, Rhetoric and Speech Science
The division Phonetics, Rhetoric and Speech Science provides a forum for all applied linguistic topics related to speech and oral communication. Since speech and hearing can be considered as closely associated with various human communicative practices on the one hand and as closely tied to physical processes on the other, we are much in favor of a multidisciplinary perspective. Such an account is compatible with multimodal approaches and also implies the physical embedding of speech, particularly voice. While our main focus lies on studies addressing empirical questions, we are equally interested in critically discussing theoretical and methodological issues. We also welcome applied research linked to Linguistics, Rhetoric, Speech Science, Speech Pathology and Phonetics, directed at optimizing spoken language or the didactics of spoken interaction.
