Translation and Interpreting Studies

Translation and interpreting studies by their very nature intersect with the research interests of other sections. We primarily deal with the written or oral translation of texts from one language into another (so-called ‘interlingual translation’). However specialist text linguistics, didactics or media studies also play a role in our research and practice, to name just a few.

translation and interpreting studies are both interested in the product, i.e. the text available after the translation process, as well as the process of product creation. These two categories are examined in a wide range of fields: machine translation, professional translation, layperson translation (an increasingly important aspect in times of crowdsourcing), translation for a specific target group, intralingual translation (e.g. the translation of a text into simplified language) and many more.
