Soziolinguistik

Die Sektion Soziolinguistik beschäftigt sich mit Kommunikationspraktiken, Kommunikationspolitiken und Kommunikationserwartungen in gesellschaftlichen Kontexten und mit deren sozialen Konsequenzen. Dabei ist sie einerseits an gesellschaftlichen und kulturellen Rahmungen interessiert, die sich auf Sprache, Sprachgebrauch und Sprachbewertung auswirken, andererseits aber auch umgekehrt daran, wie sprachliche und sprachreflexive Praktiken Gesellschaft und Gemeinschaft und somit diese Rahmungen (mit-)gestalten. Zu den Kernthemen der Sektion zählen unter anderem:

• kommunikative Variation und Variabilität in bestimmten sozialen Bereichen, Dimensionen und Domänen
• kommunikative Praktiken in Vergemeinschaftung
• sprachlich (ko-)konstruierte soziale Diskriminierung und soziale Ungleichheit
• soziale und räumliche Mobilität und sprachliche Diversifizierung
• Sprach- und Kommunikationsideologien
• Sprach(en)politik und Sprecher:innenrechte
• Sprachvariation und Sprachwandel
• Kontextualisierung und soziale Positionierung
• kommunikative Variation, kommunikative Praktiken und Vergemeinschaftung in digital vermittelter Kommunikation
• die Bedeutung und Reflexion bestimmter Modalitäten und Medien in gesellschaftlichen Kontexten
• gesellschaftliche Diskurse insbesondere zu ‚Sprache‘, ‚Kultur‘ und ‚Gesellschaft‘
• sprachwissenschaftliche und alltagsweltliche Konzeptualisierungen von ‚Kultur‘ und ‚Gesellschaft‘
• Methoden und Methodologie der Soziolinguistik

Die Sektion möchte über einzelne Themensetzungen hinaus einen Raum für Dialog zwischen verschiedenen Paradigmen der Soziolinguistik (wie Variationslinguistik, interaktionale Soziolinguistik, kritische Soziolinguistik) sowie mit anderen angewandten Teildisziplinen, die an gesellschaftlich-kulturellen Fragen interessiert sind, bieten, und somit zur produktiven Weiterentwicklung der Teildisziplin beitragen.

Sociolinguistics

The section, Sociolinguistics, is concerned with practices, policies and construals of communication in social contexts as well as with their social impact. It is interested, on the one hand, in the social and cultural framing of language, language use and language evaluation. On the other hand, it also investigates into how linguistic and metalinguistic practices (co-)construct society and communities, and hence this framing. Special attention is devoted to topics such as:

• communicative variation and variability across social scales, dimensions, and domains
• communicative practices and communification
• language-related social discrimination and inequality
• spatial and social mobility and linguistic differentiation
• ideologies of language and communication
• language policy and speaker rights
• language variation and change
• contextualization and social positioning
• communicative variation, practices and communification in digitally mediated discourse
• the role of and reflexivity towards specific modalities and media in social contexts
• social discourse, particularly concerning ‘language’, ‘culture’, and ‘society’
• academic and non-academic construals of ‘society’ and ‘culture’
• sociolinguistic methods and methodology

Beyond specific thematic foci, the section attempts to provide a forum for dialog between different paradigms of sociolinguistics (such as variational, interactional, or critical sociolinguistics) and with other applied sub-disciplines which are interested in social and cultural matters. We want to contribute to a productive advancement of the discipline.
